Segundo o Conselho Brasileiro de Oftalmologia, 43% das crianças cegas no mundo perderam a visão por causas evitáveis ou tratáveis. Durante a infância, é importante que os pais fiquem atentos a qualquer alteração nos olhos da criança e realizem o acompanhamento com um oftalmopediatra regularmente.
Confira abaixo os principais cuidados que devem ser tomados em cada faixa etária da criança
Recém-nascido
Ao nascer, a criança deve passar pelo chamado teste do olhinho. Esse exame permite identificar problemas oculares congênitos, como malformações, catarata, glaucoma e tumores.
Até os dois anos
O acompanhamento oftalmológico é importante, principalmente em casos de lacrimejamento, desvio ocular, pupilas brancas ou embaçadas, fora do centro ou de tamanhos e cores diferentes.
2 a 5 anos
Nesta fase, é importante detectar se existe algum desvio ocular. O estrabismo precisa ser diagnosticado e tratado para que a criança desenvolva bem a visão dos dois olhos. Quanto mais precoce o diagnóstico, maiores são as chances de recuperação e menor a perda visual.
5 a 10 anos
Para que a criança tenha um bom aprendizado, a visão é extremamente importante. Erros refrativos, quando não corrigidos, podem causar desinteresse pelas aulas e dificuldades no desempenho escolar. Pais e professores são aliados na detecção destes problemas e devem ficar atentos aos sinais como, dificuldade de enxergar de longe as letras do quadro ou de perto o que escreve no caderno. É fundamental que toda criança faça um exame completo com um oftalmopediatra.
10 a 15 anos
Nesta fase, existe o risco de desenvolver ceratocone, principalmente pelo hábito de coçar os olhos. Os pais precisam estar atentos às queixas para sensibilidade à luz e a dificuldade de enxergar, mesmo com utilização de óculos. Se forem apresentados esses sintomas, um especialista deverá ser consultado. O ceratocone não tem cura, mas pode ser tratado. Quanto antes for diagnosticado, maiores as chances de impedir o avanço da doença.
Importante lembrar também que, em tempos de pandemia, a exposição excessiva às telas pode trazer alguns prejuízos para a saúde ocular, principalmente durante a infância e a adolescência.
