O que é Pterígio?

O Pterígio é uma resposta do corpo humano a um processo de irritação ocular. Assim, essa carne do olho é basicamente um espessamento da conjuntiva do olho (membrana mucosa que recobre os olhos). A membrana se cria no ângulo interno, crescendo e se alastrando em direção a córnea, como uma forma de proteção.

Quais são os principais sintomas?

O desenvolvimento do Pterígio é um processo bastante incomodo para o paciente. Além disso, se não tratado adequadamente, pode levar à várias complicações secundárias. Além da presença física do Pterígio, é importante ficar atendo a outros sintomas:

  • Ardor;
  • Embaçamento;
  • Irritação;
  • Lacrimação;
  • Sensação de corpo estranho;
  • Vermelhidão nos olhos.

Dependo da gravidade do quadro, é possível também constatar distorção e alterações na córnea, que podem levar ao astigmatismo severo e ao uso de óculos de grau.

Quais são as causas para o aparecimento do Pterígio?

O aparecimento desse problema ocular está diretamente ligado ao contato excessivo com condições externas que causam irritabilidade ocular. Entre as principais causas está a exposição prolongada a:

  • Poeira;
  • Raios UV;
  • Vento.

É importante ressaltar que a exposição prolongada e excessiva ao sol e aos raios UV, por si só, é capaz de desenvolver várias alterações oculares.

As opções de tratamento

O tratamento adequado irá depender da gravidade e características do quadro do paciente. De forma geral, existem três soluções para o Pterígio: medicamentos vasoconstritores, uso de colírios de corticosteroide ou procedimento cirúrgico.

Os vasoconstritores são recomendados apenas para clarear o aspecto avermelhado dos olhos. Já o colírio é uma forma de tratamento que reverte o quadro, sendo muito usado em momentos de crise da doença. Porém, em casos severos e mais espessos, a Cirurgia de Pterígio é o tratamento mais indicado.

A Cirurgia de Pterígio

Os colírios não devem ser utilizados de forma prolongada. Por isso, a melhor solução é remover a lesão via procedimento cirúrgico. A Cirurgia de Pterígio consiste na remoção dessa “carne” com uso de anestesia local e, depois, realiza um micro enxerto conjuntival.

O ideal é evitar a exposição prolongada, porém, nem sempre é possível. O uso de óculos de sol é o principal preventivo, protegendo os olhos contra qualquer malefício.

Outra forma de prevenir é utilizando lágrimas artificiais para manter os olhos lubrificados e evitar ressecamento. Motoristas também devem evitar ao máximo o contato constante de vento no rosto.
