O que é Ceratocone?

O ceratocone é uma doença progressiva, isso quer dizer que ela vai aumentando com o passar do tempo.  Por isso é mais do que importante o acompanhamento de um médico oftalmologista.

Para cada estágio de evolução do Ceratocone existe um tratamento indicado que pode impedir a progressão e melhorar a acuidade da visão do paciente.

Apenas o oftalmologista poderá indicar o tratamento ideal para cada caso, depois que o paciente realizar uma série de exames indicados pelo médico, os exames vão identificar a presença do Ceratocone e seu estágio de progressão.

Os exames para a detecção do Ceratocone envolvem estudo completo do olho.  Através de aparelhos de alta tecnologia, o médico consegue estudar e entender toda a estrutura do olho em detalhes, os equipamentos conseguem medir a espessura  e curvatura da córnea, observando também a saúde geral das células corneanas.

Os tratamentos do ceratocone podem ser cirúrgicos e não cirúrgicos. Sendo assim os tratamentos funcionam da seguinte forma:

  • Tratamentos não cirúrgicos: incluem uso contínuo de óculos de correção ou lentes de contato – gelatinosas ou rígidas, dependendo do caso. São indicados para melhorar a acuidade visual do paciente, corrigindo o grau do erro de refração.
  • Tratamentos cirúrgicos: são usados para reforçar as fibras de colágeno da córnea, ou implante de material biocompatível dentro da córnea para melhorar sua curvatura. Em último caso, é indicado o transplante de córnea.
